Your BodyGraph is an architectural drawing of the energetic form that is you. A schematic of your unique Human Design.
It maps out your nine Energy Centres, along with your activated Gates and defined Channels. Together, these create your own pattern of definition and energy flow, and from that pattern come key parts of your design including your Type and your Authority.
We're going to start with your Energy Type.
Think of your Type as the model of vehicle you're navigating life in. There are five Types, each built differently, with its own mechanics and their own way of moving through the world.
Your Type shapes the nature of your aura, the energetic field around you that meets everything and everyone you come across. It's what your body silently says before you say a word.
It also gives you your Strategy: the way your particular vehicle is designed to move through life with the least resistance. Follow it and you start to recognise the people, opportunities and experiences that are right for you, rather than forcing things to happen in ways that work against your design.
It also tells us about two very particular feelings. One tends to show up when you're living in alignment with your design. The other is a sign you're working against it.
That's why your Type is one of the easiest and most effective places to start experimenting with Human Design and to begin noticing what actually changes when you work with your natural mechanics instead of against them.
Energy Types
The Manifestor
The Manifestor aura is described as "closed and repelling." I like to think of it as selective. It's dense and intentional, acting like a filter that either pulls people in or keeps them at a distance.

Manifestors are strong, powerful and independent but with an undefined Sacral Centre, their energy doesn't run consistently. It comes in sudden, powerful surges to move and once a surge has passed, they're completely done. Then they need to rest, retreat or go back to "playing" until the next urge comes along.
They don't like to be restricted and they shouldn't be. Manifestors are designed to move independently, on their own terms and at their own speed. They're usually happy for others to be involved but whatever they're doing isn't really a team sport. It's entirely theirs.
A Manifestor's Strategy is to inform. As they're so independent and impulsive, their actions can throw people off. By keeping people in the loop before they act, they're far less likely to face questioning, interference or pushback. Informing isn't asking for permission. It's simply letting others know where they stand, to keep the peace and avoid unnecessary friction.
When Manifestors are free to live life their way, they step into their Signature state, or Self theme: Peace. A deep sense that everything is as it should be. But when they feel controlled, boxed in or stuck, Anger will rise. This is their Not-Self theme.
Both feelings are worth listening to. They're the Soul speaking. One tells you you're on track; the other is a clear signal that something is off and the mind has taken over.
The Generator
The Generator aura is described as "open and enveloping." I like to think of it as steady. It's warm and welcoming, naturally drawing people and opportunities in, with each door opening up the next.

Generators are extremely strong, capable people with an incredible capacity to build, create and bring things to life. What powers them is a defined Sacral Centre, the source of life-force energy. The Sacral has two big jobs. First, it's an internal gauge, giving a clear "yes" when something is right for them and a "no" when it isn't. Second, it's a motor. When that "yes" hits, it switches on, generating all the energy needed to actually get things done. When it's a "no," the engine stays off. A genuine "yes" is what lights a Generator up, and when they're lit up, so is the whole room.
This is why a Generator's Strategy is to respond. Instead of using the mind to make things happen, they're designed to let life come to them so the Sacral has something to react to. It's about coming out of the head, letting the body speak and actually listening to what it says.
That response isn't intellectual. It's deeply physical. It might be an expansion or contraction in the gut, a lean towards or away, or a spontaneous "uh-huh" or "nuh-uh" before the mind has a chance to filter it.
When a Generator honours their Sacral, they step into their Signature state, or Self theme: Satisfaction. But when they ignore those signals and end up feeling stuck, uninspired or disheartened, Frustration will rise. This is their Not-Self theme.
Both feelings are worth listening to. They're the Soul speaking. One tells you you're on track; the other is a clear signal that something is off and the mind has taken over.
The Manifesting Generator
The Manifesting Generator aura is described as "open and enveloping." I like to think of it as sparkly. It is warm and welcoming, naturally drawing people and opportunities in with each door opening the next.

At their core, Manifesting Generators are Generators with a hint of Manifestor. They have the same powerful Sacral energy for creating and bringing things to life, paired with sudden impulses to act on whatever calls to them. They're fast-moving, capable and multifaceted.
Manifesting Generators aren't here to follow a neat, predictable path. They'll try something new, master it, lose interest, move on, come back to it later or find themselves doing something completely different. They thrive on variety, can happily have several things on the go at once and are brilliant at getting things done quickly by spotting where steps can be skipped. To a Manifesting Generator, life is one big smorgasbord and they're here to taste it all. This means that they can be quick to walk away when they've had enough because their Soul knows there's something even better around the corner.
Like Generators, they're powered by a defined Sacral Centre, the internal gauge and motor that says "yes" or "no" and switches on full energy when the answer is yes. So, their Strategy is also to respond: letting life come to them and trusting that physical, gut-level reaction rather than the mind.
As they move so fast, Manifesting Generators should also inform. Their speed can easily catch people off guard, so letting others know what they're about to do keeps the peace and saves a lot of unnecessary friction. Just like with the Manifestor, it's not about asking for permission. It's simply letting people know where they stand.
When a Manifesting Generator honours their Sacral, they step into their Signature state, or Self theme: Satisfaction and often Peace too. But when they ignore those signals and end up feeling stuck, uninspired or disheartened, Frustration or Anger will rise. This is their Not-Self theme.

The Projector
The Projector aura is described as "focused and absorbing." I like to think of it as curious. It's designed to reach right beneath the surface of whoever or whatever they're focusing on, giving them deep insight into how the energy actually works.

Projectors see the world with pure fascination, as though everything is an individual puzzle within a much larger master design. They know that when each piece runs properly, the whole system works better and through what they see and understand, they have a unique ability to guide, refine and influence how energy is used. They love systems that help them understand people and society. They spot patterns and deeper connections, notice details others miss and question why things are done the way they are. And because they're so fascinated by human nature, when a Projector is with you, they can be completely absorbed in who you are.
With an undefined Sacral Centre, Projectors don't have consistent access to life-force energy the way Generators and Manifesting Generators, so they're not designed to live or work in the same way. They need more rest than people often realise and can become exhausted trying to keep up with people whose energy works very differently from their own. They're here to guide energy, not to generate it.
A Projector's Strategy is to wait to be recognised and invited. What they see - the potential, what isn't working and where something could work better, isn't always welcome when it hasn't been asked for. By waiting, asking questions and waiting some more, they allow other people to recognise what they have to offer and ask for input. This is especially important as far as the bigger things in life are concerned. The Projector should then use their Authority to decide whether the invitation is right for them.
When a Projector is recognised, valued and in a position to truly make a difference, they step into their Signature state, or Self theme: Success. But when they're trying to be seen, to prove what they know or giving advice when it wasn’t asked for, Bitterness will rise. This is their Not-Self theme.

The Reflector
The Reflector aura is described as "sampling and resistant." I like to think of it as ethereal. Reflectors are extremely rare, only around 1% of people, and they have a unique role in humanity: to act as an energetic barometer for their community and environment.

Unlike every other Type, they have no defined Energy Centres making them extraordinarily attuned to the world around them. They are designed to reflect back what's working and what isn't. Their nine undefined Energy Centres form the system that gives them the ability to sample external energy while their aura provides a layer pf protection. This means that they can sample without absorbing. Their openness takes in, processes and amplifies the energies around them which they then reflect back out into the world. The people and places Reflectors surround themselves with really matter because this where both their wisdom and their vulnerability lie.
They thrive on freedom and variety as their experience of life can be different every day. They're the only Type with Lunar Authority which means that as the Moon moves through the 64 Gates different parts of their BodyGraph are temporarily activated. Due to this continual change, their Strategy is to wait for a full lunar cycle, roughly 28 days before making big decisions. This gives them the time to process the decision over a whole cycle of Gate transits. They don't respond well to being rushed or pressured.
Due to Reflectors have no inner, body-based Authority, talking to the people in their lives that they trust gives them a sounding board. By talking out loud they can hear themselves and come to their own conclusions over time.
When a Reflector honours this process, they step into their Signature state, or Self theme: Surprise. But when they're rushed, overly conditioned by their environment or try and live their lives like others, Disappointment will rise. This is their Not-Self theme.
